WINDOW WANDERLAND 2023
A project coordinated by Somerset Art Works. Using a green screen and digital video techniques residents of Chard made an animated moving image sequence. This digital artwork was projected onto the big windows of the Guildhall in Chard on the evening of Saturday 11th March 2023.

Up in the Air Festival
This project provided an opportunity for members of Remix and Premix to participate in a dance/film project culminating in a live performance and outdoor projections at the Up in the Air Festival, part of Inside Out Dorset. The Remix is an inclusive youth performance company open to young people age 12 -19 both disabled and non-disabled from across Dorset. Premix is a group set up for younger people and is aimed at 7-11yr olds. The Remix and Premix members include young people with physical and sensory impairments, young people with learning difficulties and non-disabled young people, all with a love of performance and the willingness to stretch themselves and have fun.
This project was commissioned by Activate Performing Arts.
Water Piano
A simple, noisy, intervention on Dulverton Hight Street provided an opportunity for passers-by to create music on a water piano. By dipping your finger into a bucket of water a piano chord if played. The piece was made using a MakeyMakey board, bell wire, crocodile clips and 12 buckets of water.
This sound-work was made as part of Richard’s role as Creative Technologist working on Ignite Somerset, a project managed by Somerset Film and funded by Arts Council England.
WINDOW WANDERLAND 2022
Featured here is footage of projections for Window Wanderland 2021, commissioned by LoveYeovil and Yeovil Art Space. This sequence was rear-projected onto the large windows of Yeovil public library. The library team were incredibly supportive, allowing us to affix rear projection film onto the surface of the windows to ensure the sequence could be seen. The piece features illustrations of prominent buildings in the town and shapes, such as gloves and rota-blades, associated with Yeovil.
Click below to see the sequence co-created with some of Yeovil’s young people. This sequence was projected onto the windows of Nationwide in Yeovil for Window Wanderland throughout February 2022.
Banksy or Blanksy
an outdoor projection for Activate Performing Arts, May 2019
Recent collaborative work with: Activate Performing Arts, dancers and DJs from Weymouth College, Train Hard Parkour, Remix and Premix (an inclusive youth performance company open to young people age 12 -19 both disabled and non-disabled from across Dorset) resulted in an amazing and original mix of dance, projected film and music.
This moving image sequence features a combination of video shot on-location in Dorchester, green screen and motion graphic sequences. The piece was projected on two screen in Borough Gardens (Dorchester) and accompanied a live performance in May 2019.
Light Up Axminster
Residents of Axminster used a combination of black card, split pins, a simple stop frame animation app and lots of imagination to create a simple, but beautiful, animation for Light Up Axminster. The moving image sequence tells the story of a couple of sprites who are awoken by the falling snow.
In December 2018 the sequence was projected prominently in the town centre as part of the Christmas festivities.
Stop Frame Animation for Wassails
Primary school children learnt how to create simple stop frame animations using a combination of: black card, split pins, a simple animation app and a lot of imagination. Children were asked to create moving image sequences that made a connection with the ancient tradition of Wassailing, apples and orchards. The sequences were projected onto local pubs and farm buildings.
These projections were made as part of Richard’s role as Creative Technologist working on Ignite Somerset, a project managed by Somerset Film and funded by Arts Council England.
